As part of the German-Africa Forum, the German Entrepreneurship Award for Development was presented on the evening of the 1st of June 2021 in Hamburg.
We are proud that our founder Martin Wesian accepted the award in the category "Innovation for Development" for HELIOZ.
The German Entrepreneurship Award for Development is awarded every two years at the initiative of the Carl-Duisberg-Gesellschaft e.V. (CDG) on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. It honours the commitment of companies in developing and emerging countries that goes beyond the entrepreneurial goal in order to benefit the local people.
With their projects or innovative business models, the award-winning companies contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Norbert Barthle, emphasised the importance of the private sector in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals:
"The German government supports the engagement of the private sector where entrepreneurial opportunities and the need for development policy action meet. The private sector is one of our most important partners in achieving development in these countries. With the wages they earn, they not only give people a financial basis for their lives, but also the opportunity for personal development and prospects in their home countries. It enables a different, new (self-)confidence."
Through its innovative solution for water disinfection, the UV measuring device WADI developed in house, HELIOZ provides numerous families in India, Africa and Southeast Asia with safe drinking water and therefore creates a high social, economic and ecological benefit.
